Why We Moved Our Entire Business From WordPress to Claude After 600+ Websites

After 8 years and 600+ WordPress builds, AIM Squad spent six months testing Claude and Claude Code before moving its entire business. Here's why.

In This Blog Summary

For eight years, WordPress was the foundation of AIM Squad. Since 2018 we've launched more than 600 websites, and almost all of them were built on WordPress with the Elementor theme builder and a stack of third-party plugins. Those sites worked. They ranked, they brought in leads, and our clients grew with them.

So this was not a decision we made lightly.

After six months of careful testing, AIM Squad has moved its entire business model to Claude and Claude Code. Every new client website is now custom built with them, and we're migrating our existing clients as well. This is the biggest change in our company's history. We made it because, after weighing everything, we're convinced it's the best decision for the businesses that trust us with their online presence.

Here's how we got there, and why we're confident it's the right call.

How We Made This Decision

Changing the platform behind 600+ websites puts our clients' rankings, leads, and revenue on the line, so we didn't make the move because a new tool was exciting. We made it because the evidence kept pointing the same way.

We judged both platforms against the standards our clients actually depend on:

  • Security. Which platform keeps a business's site and customer data safest, with the fewest vulnerabilities to manage?
  • Speed and technical SEO. Given the same time and expertise, which platform produces the faster, cleaner site that search engines reward?
  • Local rankings. Could we carry our proven local SEO formula over without losing anything?
  • Conversions. Could we build sites that still turn visitors into calls, bookings, and sales?
  • Maintenance and reliability. How much ongoing work does each platform demand just to stay stable, and who do you depend on when something breaks?
  • Client experience. Which platform is easier for owners to use, and which gives them better insight into their marketing?

Then we tested it in the real world. For about six months, we built on Claude and Claude Code while continuing to serve our current and new clients on our existing process. We didn't announce anything or make promises. We built real websites for real businesses and measured the results.

After the first 10 websites, the results spoke for themselves. Every site came in with fast page speed, strong conversion rates, clean technical SEO, and full responsiveness on every device. Their Lighthouse scores were in the green, at 90 or higher, across Performance, SEO, Agentic Browsing, and the other categories.

That was the turning point. We were sold.

We also asked ourselves a harder question: are we willing to stake our reputation on this? After eight years of building trust one client at a time, we wouldn't move our business, or our clients' businesses, onto anything we didn't fully believe in. The answer was yes.

What It Took to Make a WordPress Site Work

To understand why the results surprised us, it helps to see what goes into a business-ready WordPress site. It's really several separate products made to work together:

  • WordPress core, the PHP-based content management system
  • A theme builder, which for us was Elementor
  • Plugins for SEO, caching, security, forms, backups, image compression, redirects, and schema
  • Third-party software for booking, scheduling, quotes, and client intake, embedded into the site

Each layer comes from a different company, runs on its own update schedule, and has its own vulnerabilities. Every one of them adds code that loads on your site whether a given page needs it or not.

We were good at managing that stack. But managing it is where a lot of our time went, and it wasn't time that made our clients more money.

Why WordPress Stopped Making Sense

Third-party plugins set the limits. Every feature depended on someone else's product. If a plugin couldn't do what a client needed, the answer was usually "that's not possible," or another plugin stacked on top.

Updates break things. Core, theme, plugin, and third-party software updates arrive constantly, and any one of them can break a layout, a contact form, or a booking calendar. Often nobody knows until a customer says they couldn't book.

Tech support is out of your hands. When third-party software glitches, you contact the vendor's support team, explain the problem, and wait. Sometimes that takes days. Sometimes it takes weeks or even months. Meanwhile the business owner is losing bookings and leads over a problem neither they nor their web team is allowed to fix.

Plugins add weight. A typical business site needs a dozen or more plugins to do everything a modern site should do. Each one adds scripts, styles, and database queries, and even a well-optimized site accumulates that weight over time.

The editor is clunky. Page builders are powerful, but a client who logs in to change one line of text often finds a maze of nested sections, widgets, and settings.

Sites slow down over time. Plugin bloat, growing databases, and stacked page-builder code gradually drag a site's speed down. Speed affects both rankings and conversions, so that slow decline costs real money.

The Security Wake-Up Call: PHP2Shell

While we were finishing our evaluation, an event confirmed everything we'd been seeing.

In October 2026, two critical vulnerabilities in PHP, the programming language WordPress runs on, became public. Researchers named them "PHP2Shell," and they're tracked as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619. TechCrunch reported that the flaws let attackers take control of an unpatched server remotely, with no password and no user interaction. PHP runs roughly 70% of the web-facing internet, and WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla were all in the blast radius.

Attackers moved quickly. The PHP Foundation released patches on October 21, but Amazon had already detected exploitation attempts days earlier. Within a week, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) confirmed the bugs were being actively exploited and ordered federal agencies to patch within three days. Banks, retailers, hospitals, and government agencies took servers offline to fix them. According to watchTowr's technical analysis, older PHP versions, including PHP 7.3 and earlier, have no fix at all.

Think about what that means for a local business. Most small business owners don't know which PHP version their host runs, and many are on hosting plans that haven't been updated in years. Every one of those sites was exposed, and none of the owners did anything wrong.

We don't want our clients' businesses resting on infrastructure like that.

What a Claude-Built Website Actually Is

A Claude-built website is custom code, written for your business and nothing else. Instead of installing WordPress, adding a theme builder, and stacking plugins on top, we build each site directly with Claude and Claude Code. The site ships only the code it needs.

Because there's no WordPress PHP stack and no plugin ecosystem underneath, the most common attack surface on the web disappears.

"Doesn't That Mean AI Slop?"

No. AI-generated websites have earned a bad reputation, and some of it is deserved. Generic layouts, filler copy, and cookie-cutter designs are everywhere.

That isn't what we build. Claude is the tool, and our formula, refined over 600+ sites, is still the process. Every site still gets:

  • Custom design built around your brand
  • Local SEO architecture designed to rank in your service area
  • Conversion-focused layouts that turn visitors into calls and bookings
  • Copy written for your customers, not for a template

A better hammer doesn't make you a carpenter. Eight years of building sites that rank and convert does.

The Benefits of a Claude-Built Website

Better technical SEO. This is the biggest one. Put the same time and technique into a WordPress build and a Claude Code build, and the Claude site wins on technical SEO, because there's no builder markup, unused plugin code, or bloated database between your content and Google. We guarantee a Lighthouse SEO score of 90 or higher on migrated pages at launch.

Faster load times. Lean custom code loads faster, which helps your rankings and keeps visitors from bouncing.

Stronger security. No WordPress core, no plugins, and no PHP vulnerabilities like PHP2Shell to scramble over.

Less maintenance. You're no longer waiting on a dozen plugin updates and hoping nothing breaks.

Easier to use than WordPress. Simple updates no longer mean digging through page-builder settings.

Marketing dashboards. We can build custom data dashboards into your site so you can see your marketing performance in one place, including leads, calls, traffic, and what's working. (See the Superior Carpet and Ducts example below.)

Real Results From Real Client Sites

We don't want you to take our word for it. Here's what three Claude-built client sites look like right now.

Superior Carpet and Ducts: A Custom Analytics Dashboard

Superior Carpet and Ducts doesn't log into a generic analytics tool and try to make sense of it. Their website includes a custom dashboard we built, with real-time analytics and visitor tracking. It shows exactly how the site is performing and where their business is coming from.

In a single 30-day period, the dashboard showed:

  • 1,065 visits, up 6% from the previous 30 days
  • 51 leads from submitted forms, up 13%
  • 58 taps to call from mobile visitors, up 123%
  • A 9.3% conversion rate, up 33%
  • 68% engaged visits, meaning visitors who stayed 15 seconds or more or viewed a second page

The dashboard also tracks traffic sources, conversions, and page-by-page performance. When they want something changed on the site, they point at it directly on the page and send us the request. There's no login maze and no editor to learn.

RejuvStem: All Green on Google PageSpeed Insights

RejuvStem's Claude-built website scores in the green on Google PageSpeed Insights across its most-visited pages, on both phone and desktop:

  • Home page: 90 phone, 99 desktop
  • Autism treatment page: 99 phone, 100 desktop
  • Hair restoration page: 94 phone, 97 desktop
  • Prenuvo whole body MRI page: 96 phone, 94 desktop
  • Contact page: 93 phone, 99 desktop

Most of those pages load in about one second on a phone, and the contact page loads in two. Layout shift sits at 0.02, which means pages don't jump around as they load. That's the kind of technical performance that's very hard to hold onto with a page builder and a stack of plugins.

Cali Mesa Roofing: 96 Performance and 100 SEO on Mobile

Google PageSpeed Insights scores for the Cali Mesa Roofing home page on mobile, the harder test of the two:

  • Performance: 96
  • Accessibility: 97
  • Best Practices: 100
  • SEO: 100
  • Agentic Browsing: 2/2 checks passed

No More Settling for Off-the-Shelf Software

On WordPress, every feature beyond the basics came from a third-party vendor. You paid their monthly fees, worked around their limits, and waited on their support team whenever something went wrong.

With Claude and Claude Code, we can build custom software for your business and integrate it directly into your website.

Don't like how limited your booking software is? No problem. We can rebuild it and tailor it to the way your business actually runs. That could mean:

  • Booking and scheduling built around your services, staff, and availability rules
  • Quote and pricing calculators that match how you actually price your work
  • Custom intake forms and client portals that collect exactly what you need
  • Internal tools and dashboards that replace spreadsheets and disconnected apps

And when something needs to change, you don't open a support ticket with a company that has never heard of your business. You talk to us. We built it, we know it, and we can fix or improve it without waiting on anyone else's timeline.

Your website and your software finally work together the way they should, built for your business rather than squeezed into someone else's product.

What This Means for Current AIM Squad Clients

If you're a current client, we're not leaving you on WordPress while new clients get the better stack. Every client who stays with AIM Squad on an active maintenance or service plan is eligible to have their website converted to a Claude-built site.

You keep the design direction, the rankings work, and the content you've invested in, and it all moves onto a faster, leaner, more secure foundation.

The Bottom Line

WordPress built a big part of the web, and it built a big part of AIM Squad. We're grateful for that.

Moving away from it was a deliberate, carefully weighed business decision. We spent six months testing the alternative on real client work, measured the results across our first 10 websites, and watched last month's PHP vulnerabilities confirm what our evaluation had already shown. The platform underneath a business's website matters, and we owe our clients the strongest one available.

Custom code built with Claude and Claude Code, combined with our formula for design, local SEO, conversion, and custom software, is the best tech stack we've offered in eight years. We believe in it enough to have rebuilt our entire business around it, and we're bringing every client with us.
