The Wanted Taco

The Website

A growing catering business needed more than a pretty menu online — it needed a way to actually sell taco packages and take payment without a single phone call. AIM Squad built The Wanted Taco a full WooCommerce storefront from the ground up, engineered to handle custom package pricing and event scheduling right inside checkout.

The Challenge: A Growing Catering Business Ready to Sell Online

The Wanted Taco is a Southern California mobile taco catering company serving weddings, corporate events, and celebrations across Orange County, Los Angeles, and Riverside. As the business grew, owner Francisco Brito needed a website that could do more than showcase the business — it needed to actually sell taco packages, handle delivery and pickup logistics, and take payment online, all without adding complexity to day-to-day operations.

The old site was built around a “Get a Free Quote” model — visitors could browse taco packages, but every booking required a manual back-and-forth before a customer could actually commit.

The Problems

  1. No Ecommerce Functionality. The Wanted Taco’s site had no way for customers to select a taco package, choose delivery or pickup timing, and pay online — every booking required manual coordination instead of a simple checkout.
  2. Taco Packages Don’t Fit a Standard Checkout. Catering packages aren’t a simple “add to cart” purchase — pricing depends on entrée options, guest counts, and event specifics. A standard ecommerce setup wouldn’t handle that complexity out of the box.
  3. Delivery and Pickup Scheduling Needed to Live Inside Checkout. Customers needed to select delivery or pickup date and time as part of the ordering process itself, not as a separate manual step after payment — every extra step between “I want this” and “I’ve paid for this” is a chance for a customer to abandon and book somewhere else.

Our Strategic Approach

Phase 1: Full WooCommerce Ecommerce Build

Goal: give The Wanted Taco a complete, functioning online storefront. AIM Squad built a full WooCommerce integration — cart, product, and checkout pages — replacing the old quote-request model with real online ordering.

Phase 2: Custom Package Pricing and Ordering Logic

Goal: let taco packages price correctly based on entrée selections, not a flat product price. AIM Squad implemented advanced product field functionality so taco package pricing could calculate correctly based on entrée options and selections — along with a dedicated table and menu ordering interface for The Wanted Taco’s Festive Bites offerings, so complex catering orders could be built and priced accurately without manual review.

Phase 3: Delivery and Pickup Scheduling at Checkout

Goal: let customers pick their delivery or pickup date and time as part of checkout, not after. AIM Squad integrated delivery and pickup scheduling directly into the checkout flow, removing manual coordination after an order came in.

The Results

✅ A complete WooCommerce ecommerce build. Cart, product, and checkout pages built from the ground up, replacing a manual quote-request process with real online ordering.

✅ Custom package pricing logic. Correctly calculating taco package costs based on entrée selections, so complex catering orders price accurately without back-and-forth.

✅ Delivery and pickup scheduling built into checkout. Removing manual coordination from the ordering process and giving customers a clear, immediate confirmation of their event details.

✅ A higher-converting checkout process overall. Turning more visitors into paid, booked orders by removing friction at the exact moment a customer is ready to commit. [Specific conversion or revenue metrics go here if you have them.]

Frequently Asked Question

Why does a catering business need custom ecommerce instead of an off-the-shelf checkout?

Standard ecommerce platforms are built for simple, fixed-price products. Catering pricing depends on entrée selections, guest counts, and event-specific details — without custom logic layered on top, a standard checkout either oversimplifies pricing or forces customers back into a manual quote process, defeating the purpose of selling online at all.

How much does checkout friction actually cost a booking-based business?

Every additional step or manual follow-up before a customer can complete a purchase is a chance for them to abandon and book elsewhere — especially for event purchases like catering, where customers are often comparing several vendors at once.

Key Takeaways for Catering & Event-Based Businesses

1. Standard Ecommerce Doesn’t Fit Custom Packages. When pricing depends on selections rather than a flat product price, off-the-shelf checkout tools need custom logic layered on top to work correctly — otherwise the business is stuck choosing between oversimplified pricing or reverting to manual quotes.

2. Scheduling Belongs in Checkout, Not After It. Every manual step after a purchase — like coordinating delivery timing separately — adds friction and staff time on both sides. Building it into checkout removes both, and gives the customer immediate certainty about their event.

3. Checkout Friction Costs Real Bookings. Every extra step or unclear moment in a booking process is a chance for a customer to abandon. A streamlined checkout directly protects revenue that would otherwise be lost to a competitor with an easier path to purchase.
